What is a Death Doula / End-of-Life Planner?

Cam is a NEDA-affiliated death doula and Humanist celebrant and end-of-life planner. He specializes in working with both the terminally ill and their families, as well as well populations who have the foresight to plan for the end of their life.

“End-of-life doulas (EOLD) provide non-medical holistic support and comfort to the dying person and their families, which may include education and guidance as well as emotional, spiritual and practical care.” Source: National End-of-Life Doula Alliance

Our Approach to the End-of-Life

We provide services as a contribution to a small but growing movement that is helping to open up the conversation about death.

Through offering a celebratory and inclusive set of services, we seek to empower the communities we serve by reminding our clients that death does not need to be approached with fear and regret.

We offer light-hearted yet serious, meaningful offerings in close partnership with our clients that do not seek to lessen the gravity of death, but rather to open communication, connection and support even after the final breath is drawn.

All of us will die– through our services we seek to help others live gracefully in the shadow of death, rather than living somberly in fear of it.

Primary Services

Celebrant & Memorial Planning

Cam is sponsored by the Humanist Society to provide non-religious celebrant services for end-of-life & funeral ceremonies, weddings, baby-naming ceremonies, and other major life events. As per the Humanist Society: ” [Humanist] celebrants are committed to humanism and not bound by a traditional religion and its dogma, therefore they are able to provide custom-made ceremonies imbued with personal meaning and honor the shared humanity and values of those involved.” We are here to help you organize and plan with a range of services including:

Coordinated planning with the dying and their loved ones

Creative design elements for memorial handouts and keepsakes

Eulogy and written content

Live sound for outdoor or private events

Guidance for organizing your affairs

We offer small group gatherings or 1 : 1 meetings to facilitate discussion and decision-making for you and your family, including advance directives, living wills, and a variety of other considerations specific to your life. Be prepared: death can come at any time. Taking steps to avoid leaving your loved ones hanging will help immensely for your peace of mind and theirs, too. Soon to be available as an online course!

Ghostwriting*

Assistance with memorials, eulogies, obituaries and autobiographical content

Ever wanted to write your own story, but never felt like you could do it on your own? We can help. Regardless of length or format, we will spend the time to help you say what you need to say. Self-Care Coaching for the Caregivers

An opportunity for caregivers to get the help they need for their own self-care

It’s not uncommon for caretakers to put their own wellbeing to the side as they prepare for the death of a loved one. Cam is a certified health coach and trainer to help provide resources and accountability for your self-care practice in the shadow of death and grief. Caring for the dying is hard– let us help you take care of yourself; that’s what your dying would want for you.
