FAQ

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is a method of applying the fundamental principles of yoga, including meditation, breathwork, Ayurveda and physical asana in a context that aids in recovery from various ailments.  It should be noted that we are not counselors or medical professionals, and that yoga therapy does not imply that we are.

Rather, yoga has been shown to be a potent tool in helping people recover from physical and emotional trauma, mitigating the effects of conditions like cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes.  While you should always consult with your doctor before engaging in yoga or any other major lifestyle change, yoga can be used as a tool (NOT A CURE) to help you feel better.

What Is Health Coaching?

Similarly to Yoga Therapy, health coaching is a newer method that is typically used in conjunction with other tools to pinpoint areas that need improvement, ranging from your diet, to exercise, and also stress-reduction and injury prevention.

Thread Wellness provides health coaching built largely around the principles of yoga, but it is tailored to each client so that you get a highly personalized experience focusing on what you need.  Use the contact form to reach out and we’ll see what the best approach is for your lifestyle.

What Is a Death Doula?

A death doula (also sometimes called a Death Midwife) offers services surrounding a client’s death.  This is a non-medical position and it tends to take the shape of a support service in whatever ways are necessary for the complicated process of navigating through death.  In our case, we specialize in some niche areas preceding death, but WE DO NOT offer medical adjacent services.

While some doulas specialize in hospice adjacent care by assisting nurses, social workers, and other professionals to facilitate grace in the dying process.  Cam is a NEDA certified death doula and he’d love to help bring some extra care and support to you and your loved ones as you begin to plan for the final journey that we all must take.  For more on the NEDA alliance click this link, and to find out more about the services we offer, including end-of-life support, fill out the form above.  For a full explanation of our services, click this link.

Is Thread Wellness a Counseling Service?

No.  We are not counselors in any capacity, and we do not advise our clients as such.  Rather, Thread Wellness provides sound (but not clinical) advice to help you regain control of your stress, your health and your outlook on life in a practical manner.  The term ‘Therapy/Therapist’ should not be read as any kind of alternative to psychotherapy or clinical counseling– that is not what we do!

If you or someone you know is seeking counseling services, please contact your doctor.  Although there are plenty of qualified counselors out there, it is important to find one that is good for you, but this is not the site to find those services.

Is Yoga Religious?

In short, no.  However, traditional yoga practice is deeply spiritual and often involves activities like chanting, meditation, deep breathing and use of mantras, which may be off-putting for some folks.  Although, Thread Wellness may not always use these methods, they may occasionally be part of our programming, but they are not required to find the benefit in a personal yoga practice.

If you find that yoga conflicts with your personal beliefs, we hope that we can personalize your experience to make you feel comfortable without feeling like you are overstepping your personal boundaries.

I Don't Like Yoga. Can You Help Me With Other Workouts?

Absolutely!  We love yoga, but we know it’s not for everyone.  One of our goals at Thread Wellness is to always be learning.  That means that we are constantly building our skills and knowledge base to help people get in shape with the tools that they want to use.

Yoga can be the focus of your program, or it can be a minor part.  Regardless, our main goal is to help you improve your life through movement and sound nutritional advice.

Do I Need To Be In Shape To Start a Yoga Practice?

Not at all.  In it’s most basic form, yoga is more about focus and careful attention than actual doing a physical practice.  In fact, some of the most potent skills that can be learned from your yoga practice may not even involve stepping onto a yoga mat.

If you are brand new to yoga or exercise, feel free to reach out to us using the contact form below, and we’ll take some time to help you understand how yoga works and what it can do to help you improve your day-to-day life, regardless of your current fitness level.

Do You Work With Beginners?

Yes, we absolutely invite people who are new to yoga– or exercise in general– to reach out to us.  Both of us are very wary that there are a lot of under-qualified trainers and instructors out there, especially in the online space.  Our goal at Thread Wellness is to provide guidance that you can trust, using tools that can work for any body.

That being said, online coaching is not for everyone, and it does require work on your part.  If you are a less-than-self-motivated person, finding someone in your area to provide one-on-one training may be more effective.  However, we feel confident that we can provide you with the resources you need to succeed and feel better, regardless of your goals or fitness level.

Do I Have To Go To a Gym Or Yoga Studio To Work With You?

No.  While there are a handful of simple items that we recommend you invest in for many of the home movements and exercises, you absolutely do not need a gym membership.

However, if you currently have a gym membership, we will gladly build you a program utilizing whatever tools you may have access to at your local gym.  We use a state-of-the-art online coaching platform to deliver workouts to our fitness clients, which will help you keep track of your program and training sessions, as well as your nutrition by syncing with apps like MyFitnessPal.

Whether you’re seeking yoga or other fitness modalities, we can help you move forward with a comprehensive set of awesome tools and programming.  Reach out to us if you have specific requests for a custom-built program.

What Is the Difference Between Yoga Therapy, Health Coaching and Personal Training?

While we do offer comprehensive online personal training services using a versatile and state-of-the-art program called PTDistinction, we focus on yoga therapy and health coaching services.

The main difference is that while personal trainers write workout programs and occasionally meal plans, health coaching and yoga therapy both consider how your program should be tailored to your whole life holistically, rather than just focusing on exercise.  Every piece of your life influences your health– we want to help you feel better all day, not just the 45 minutes when you work out.

We’d love to help you improve your fitness, your yoga practice, and an overall better lifestyle.  Reach out to us to see what we can do to improve your quality of life, and check out our services page for a full list of what our programs cover.
